SPRING FLOWER PHOTO COMPETITION

The children from Rooms 9, 10 and 11 had the opportunity to enter a Spring Flower Photo Competition which closed at the end of October.  There were 6 different categories and a winner for each category will be announced at assembly tomorrow.

Thank you to all of those who have entered I thoroughly enjoyed judging your beautiful photographs.  All I can say is that I wish I was as good at taking photographs at your age.
Well done to all those who have entered.  I hope to have this as an annual event and looking at starting a photography club at school in 2013.

Voting for the competition was open to all the children and teachers.  Thank you to all of you who took the time to vote,  it made my job so much easier!

SUGGESTION BOX...

Suggestions Mrs. Wood recently discovered in Room 10's suggestion box...

  • Mufti day where we can dress up in anything we want to and not with a specific theme.  The money raised can go towards more classroom computers, etc.
  • Movies this term.
  • Shared lunch at th end of the term.
  • A sports day, similar to our recent construction day.
  • A day where everyone can do whatever work they want to, eg. Lauren writing, Sophie H reading, Blake origami, etc.
  • Another disco!
  • Secret Santa at the end of the term.
Some great suggestions Room 10.  We'll see what we can fit inbetween our normal daily routine, performance practice, testing, athletics, etc.  We can do it, we can do it, we can do it, ...

So...anymore suggestions?

CHARACTERISATION

We aim to write as many different characterisations this term as part of our 10 minute 'Daily Dash' each morning.  It's amazing how much some children can write in only 10 minutes!

ROSIE by Sophie H

Rosie is 14 years old.  Her hair the colour of flames shines like her sapphire eyes do when great ideas pop into her fist size brain.  The cresent moon mouth she talks with makes cheerful and happy jokes come out.  Her body moves quick and frisky but graceful like a ballerina.

Her gift for caring and help comes in need a lot.  People in tears come to laughter after talking to Rosie.  The freckles on her face show the cheekiness of her mind.

No one bothers to bully her because she just stand up for herself and walk away.  Her friends admire her for her qualities.  They always know they can rely on her for trust, loyalty and friendship.  The strong but tiny form of her body speaks for itself when that humongous bit of confidence shows through.

Her button nose is cute and resembles the shyness when she meets strangers.  Her passion for animals is extremely huge as for example when she sees a rat she wants to hug it but is not allowed.

TINKA by Lauren

Tinka is 13 years old.  She has eyes like the moon and hair like waves.  Her stomach is flat as a pancake and she has lips that smile deeply.  She walkes up to people and sees how they are as if they are new.  Her voice is a different story though.  It BOOMS like thunder!  Her voice makes the hair on a cats back stand on end.  But she is quite gentle in other ways.  Her hand could melt butter but could also grasp a big brick.  Her nature is sweet and kind and well appreciated by her friends.  She wears earrings that dangle down her long hair and sparkle in the sun.  Her nose is flat and stubby with  rounder cheekbones that curve up her face.  Her skin is tanned and looks like a well oiled canvas.  Her hair is the colour of the stars, pale and goldenish white.  Tinka has long nails that could easily be mistaken for claws.  Tinka is creative, imaginative and extraordinary.

HOMEWORK - HOW BIZARRE

HOMEWORK                     WEEK 4/6                 7-19  NOVEMBER

HOW BIZARRE - 3D KIWIANA CREATIONS

gumboots    buzzy bee    tiki      pavlova      jandals      paua     kiwi bird
kiwi fruit     koru      pohutukawa       rugby ball     silver fern       sheep

L&P Lemon & Paeroa       marmite     Aotearoa       monach butterfly

For homework (7 Nov - 19 Nov) you need to make a 3D model of your favourite   kiwiana, examples listed above.  Your aim is to enlarge the original to 3x its size.

Think carefully about your creation, plan, design and decide how you are going to achieve the closest match realistically.

WARNING... if you start with a large object, it will get very big when you enlarge it.

DUE DATE: Monday, 19 November

Have fun and good luck!

You may work with a buddy if you can organise it with your parents.
