Chinese with Mrs Chang!

Every Wednesday we have Mrs Chang, she is our Chinese teacher and she has been with us for all of this term. She has been very motivating and encouraging teaching us many words that we had no clue what they meant. Also she taught us numbers up to 100!
Did you know that Chinese use pictures instead of words. Chinese is something that you can't stop learning, there are many things you can learn and as Mrs Chang says, you can't be shy if you raise your hand, and you get it wrong it's ok, thats how you learn. We have to overcome being shy and it's ok to make a mistake.
Chinese has not only taught us a second language but has shown us a new culture. thanks Mrs Chang!!

How much sugar do you drink!!!

We have been learning about healthy teeth!! We learnt about how much sugar there is in these drinks up above. Did you know sports drinks have 15 teaspoons of sugar and the energy drinks that you may drink on your way to school have 9 teaspoons of sugar.

After school it may feel nice to have a fruit drink but they carry natural sugars and naturally, they have 10 teaspoons of sugar. Your yummy lemonade has 16 teaspoons of sugar, you might have thought of this as the more healthy drinks but its actually the worst! Also soft drinks, fruit juice, sport drinks and energy drinks. Energy drinks contain 5-7 teaspoons of sugar in a 250ml glass.

If you drink a 600ml bottle of soft drink everyday you will drink 480 teaspoons of sugar a month, that equals 2kg of sugar!

A 350ml bottle of fruit juice contains as much sugar of 25 jellybeans. If you drink a 350ml bottle of energy drink everyday, it is the same as eating an extra 45 slices of white bread every month.

Water is the best choice but there are other low or no sugar options such as unflavoured milk, tea and coffee.

We all hope you have learned a lesson on how much sugar you drink.

How much sugar do you take in your body each day??????

RSA veterans visit Rm 10 and 11

Nelson RSA veterans were invited in to school on Wednesday so we could share our learning about ANZAC. We started by welcoming them in the library where Marcos and Kimberly introduced some of our learning and talked about our commemoration service. We sang the 'Tribute to the ANZACs' song led by Jack, Johnny and Jamie. After that we moved into small groups and had the opportunity to read our letters we had written to an ANZAC soldier. These letters shared our learning and we were able to ask lots of questions to find out even more. Finally we invited our guests to the staff room for a cup of tea and to sample the ANZAC biscuits some of us had made. We saw and held some of their war medals and listened to many stories. It was a great afternoon.
