THE READING LOUNGE
During the holidays Mrs Wood and Mrs Godfrey made a few changes to the set up of the classroom. They also added a very cosy reading lounge and as a class we had to come up with ideas how to use it so that there is no conflict. We have divided ourselves up into groups and each group has a day when they may use it for reading, etc. We are also responsible for tidying it up before the end of each day. As you can see from the photos above it is a really cool place to hang out!
WEEK 1
This week we welcomed Cameron Dick (Year 6) from Wellington to Room 10.
ANZAC DAY
We watched three interesting short films about New Zealand soldiers in the war and finished the week off by writing poems about ANZAC in our co-operative groups. We were able to share two verses from each group at assembly. Here are some of them.
Hungry birds flying through abandoned buildings hoping to find food and not to be shot

TERM TWO
We trust that you all had a super holiday with your children and that you enjoyed the fantastic weather we have been experiencing of late.
Term two is going to be a busy one. Please ensure that you regularly read the school weekly newsletter and our Room 10 newsletter.
We have an open door policy, so please feel free to see Mrs.Wood/Mrs Godfrey to ask questions if you are unsure about anything or to discuss issues concerning your child.
No homework this week, however I would appreciate a brief discussion about 'ANZAC DAY', this would be helpful for our classroom activities this week.
We watched the following two short films online today:

It is ANZAC Day on Wednesday. It is a public holiday and a day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand. Every year on the 25th of April we remember those who fought and died at war.

Asperger's Syndrome by Matthew Edmonds
This is my Term One topic on Aspergers. It took me the whole term to finish it. I learnt a lot from this topic and in perfect timing for the mufti day on Thursday to raise funds for Autism.
I had a list of questions to research. I chose two to share with you.
What is Asperger’s Syndrome?
Aspergers syndrome is a developmental disorder that is part of autism and the autistic spectrum. It is sometimes referred to high functioning autism. It is characterized by limited interests or unusual perception with a particular subject to the exclusions of other activities.
History of Aspergers
A German named Hans Aspergers noticed that some children were a little different. Him and Lorna Wing who discovered this disorder had this disorder themselves. They tested them and named the disorder after his surname. This was discovered in 1994.

Topic Research - Unicorns of the sea
For our narwhal research today we had to draw some narwhals to use in a factual report. We had to practise drawing a narwhal and then draw the same narwhal but in different positions. In the end we have to present an illustrated story of the life-cycle of the narwhal including all the things that influence or is a necessity in the life of a narwhal. This includes the narwhals' appearance, habitat, feeding, enemies, reproduction and its behaviour. We have some very talented illustrators in Room 10, above are some of our drawings.
